About South

At SOUTH America’s original music meets America’s heritage cuisine, under one roof. Located in Philadelphia’s Spring Garden neighborhood, SOUTH Restaurant & Jazz Club has firmly established itself as Philadelphia’s premier jazz club and upscale Southern restaurant. Owned by veteran restaurateurs, the Bynum Brothers, Robert and Benjamin Bynum have been providing live music and excellent cuisine to Philadelphia for over 30 years. SOUTH, opened in 2015, serves up elevated comfort food rooted in southern heritage cuisine.

The Jazz Club at SOUTH plays host to both the many talented musicians from the Philadelphia area and a long roster of nationally and internationally recognized artists. Straight ahead, contemporary, and Latin Jazz ensembles fill the room with rich, rhythmic improvisational sounds while young and seasoned Jazz players gather weekly for the ultimate Jazz jam session.

How the COVID-19 Business Relief Fund Will Help

The grant from FCDC helped us get through this challenging period by serving as a lifeline through 2021. Specifically we are utilizing the grant to help us update our HVAC ventilation system to conform to the new standards imposed by the city, which will allow us to increase our indoor seating capacity to 50%.

How You Can Continue to Support

We reopened for indoor dining on March 18, so we welcome the support of our neighbors by dining in or ordering takeout. Every purchase goes a long way toward helping us survive this once-in-a-lifetime pandemic.
